Author Biographies

Richard TaiteAs the CEO and founder of the Cliffside Malibu Treatment Center in Malibu, California, Richard Taite has developed a uniquely successful treatment protocol which includes specific evidence-based interventions based on the Stages of Change behavioral model. Dedicated to helping addicts overcome their addictions so they can lead their best lives, Richard is a hands-on CEO overseeing daily operations.  Richard practices what he preaches with regard to addiction recovery — completing a rigorous schedule of exercise, yoga, meditation, therapy, acupuncture, and self-reflection to maintain his sobriety.  Richard co-authored the book Ending Addiction for Good just prior to his ten-year sober anniversary.  He lives the life he always dreamed of with his wife and daughter in Malibu.

Constance ScharffConstance Scharff has a Ph.D. in Transformative Studies, specializing in addiction recovery.  She is the Senior Addiction Research Fellow and Director of Addiction Research at Cliffside Malibu Treatment Center, a researcher with the Institute for Creative Transformation, and the world’s leading expert on using ecstatic spiritual experience to maintain long-term sobriety.  Co-author of Ending Addiction for Good with Richard Taite, her analysis of integrated, holistic addiction recovery methods is being heralded as “groundbreaking” and “life saving.” Dr. Scharff writes for a variety of journals and speaks to healing professionals on helping addicts in recovery maintain their sobriety.  She has also traveled extensively in Asia, Africa, and North America, learning how to help individuals evoke life-transforming spiritual experiences and use those experiences to heal addictions and trauma.
